CLARITY Act Negotiations Reach Critical Stage as White House Pushes for September Finish
The White House has signaled that negotiations on the CLARITY Act have entered a 'binary stage', with only a handful of final issues remaining to be resolved after over a year of bipartisan talks. This means that lawmakers are now focusing on just a few key sticking points, and the bill's outcome is becoming increasingly clear.
According to White House crypto adviser Patrick Witt, discussions have narrowed down to several unresolved issues that could determine the bill's success. The CLARITY Act would create legal definitions for digital assets, network tokens, and digital commodities, while also assigning responsibilities to the SEC and CFTC to prevent overlapping or contradictory rules.
The White House is pressuring Congress to finish the bill by September, with President Trump expressing his desire to sign it into law before the midterm elections. If lawmakers fail to reach an agreement, regulators may move independently, with the Securities and Exchange Commission and Commodity Futures Trading Commission having White House support to advance crypto regulations.
Crypto companies, traditional finance representatives, exchanges, and technology sectors were all represented at a recent meeting where these developments were discussed. Trump reiterated his goal of making the United States a leading center for crypto and innovation, and expressed relief that the administration planned to continue acting despite uncertainty surrounding the legislation.
