CLARITY Act Nosedives as Bipartisan Support Fades Ahead of Crucial Senate Vote
The CLARITY Act, a bill aiming to establish statutory rules for crypto markets and give the Commodity Futures Trading Commission broader authority over qualifying digital assets, faces an uncertain future in the Senate. The legislation's chances of advancing are dwindling due to bipartisan support waning and ethics concerns surrounding President Donald Trump's crypto interests.
Senator Thom Tillis, a Republican negotiator, has expressed pessimism about the bill's prospects unless the White House resolves the ethics dispute, stating that 'if there's no interest in the White House in trying to bridge the gap on the ethics language, it is going to fail.'
The September 15 cloture vote will be a crucial test for the legislation, requiring at least seven Democratic or independent votes alongside Republican support. If the bill fails, it would not necessarily kill it but would leave limited time for another attempt before the November midterm elections.
