CLARITY Act Odds Plummet as US Crypto Regulation Looms
The US is close to passing its first comprehensive crypto market structure law, but the CLARITY Act still faces an uncertain path. The bill aims to make it easier for regulators and investors to decide whether a digital asset qualifies as a security or a commodity.
According to Galaxy Digital researchers, the odds of the CLARITY Act passing before year-end are approximately 60%, down from 75% previously. Senate Banking Chair Tim Scott said the bill would bring digital assets 'into the sunlight with clear rules, stronger safeguards, and better tools to stop bad actors.'
The CLARITY Act could reduce uncertainty for altcoins, which currently fall into a gray area. It could also set clearer rules for exchanges, registration, and disclosures, making it easier to serve US users and institutions.
Sen. Cynthia Lummis warned that failure this year could delay crypto market structure legislation for years. 'This is our last chance to pass the CLARITY Act until at least 2030,' she said.
