CLARITY Act Revisions Reach White House Amid Ongoing Bipartisan Talks
A revised proposal for the CLARITY Act, aimed at regulating crypto activities in the US federal government, has reached the White House. The new proposal would grant state authorities the power to enforce ethics rules on federal officials' crypto dealings.
The move is a response to concerns raised by Democrats that the earlier proposal gave too much power to the US Attorney General. In July 2026, the White House announced its support for sweeping federal ethics prohibitions on crypto activities.
However, some lawmakers have questioned whether the Justice Department can provide independent oversight, with Senator Ruben Gallego stating that enhanced safeguards are necessary for the CLARITY Act to pass.
