Clarity Act Seen as Turning Point for US Crypto Market
Tom Lee, co-founder of asset manager Fundstrat and chairman of BitMine Immersion Technologies, believes that the Clarity Act could be a turning point for the US crypto market. The bill aims to classify cryptocurrencies and concentrate supervisory authority with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), streamlining a regulatory system split by state.
In an interview with CNBC, Lee said that if rules differ by state, companies designing nationwide products find it harder to take on risk. He compared this structure to the 1934 launch of the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and pointed out that investors at the time also struggled under different state-by-state regulations.
Lee emphasized the need for a single regulator that cuts across cryptocurrencies, as they increasingly function like money or reputation scores. He cited Japan, Russia, and Europe as already pushing similar regulatory overhauls, which he believes are contributing to the recent market recovery.
