CLARITY Act Stalls as US Senate Gives Priority to Sanctions Bill
The US Senate's plans to vote on the CLARITY Act, which aims to establish a regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies, have hit a snag. According to sources close to the process, the bill is expected to take priority over the CLARITY Act due to its sanctions against Russia and Iran.
As a result, it seems unlikely that Senate Majority Leader John Thune will introduce a cloture motion this week to end debate on the bill and initiate voting. Cloture requires filing a motion by today, which would allow for a vote as early as Thursday.
The absence of a cloture motion could push back the consideration of the CLARITY Act until the fall legislative session, further delaying comprehensive regulation of the cryptocurrency market in the US.
