CLARITY Act Stalls in Congress Amid Crypto Regulation Debate
The CLARITY Act has stalled in Congress, and its fate may depend on whether lawmakers pass it before the recess deadline of 2030. Senator Cynthia Lummis warned that failure to act could push the bill's fate to 2030.
Senate Banking Committee minority staff released a fact sheet criticizing the Trump-Republican ethics legislative language in the CLARITY Act draft. They argue the bill contains loopholes that benefit President Trump's personal crypto holdings, citing over $1.4 billion in earnings from cryptocurrency ventures in 2025 alone.
Lummis pushed back against these claims, pointing out that the bill includes restrictions on a president's ability to disclose trust holdings and that enforcement is left solely to the Department of Justice.
