CLARITY Act Still Has a Path to Passage Despite Vocal Opposition
A recent update on the CLARITY Act vote tracking by Vincent Van Code has rekindled hopes for its passage. The bill had garnered 51 confirmed votes out of a required 60, with many assuming it would not pass due to Senate recess approaching. However, Van Code points out that only 12 out of 45 Senate Democrats have openly declared opposition, while the remaining 33 have made no public statement.
The bill does not need to convert any of the senators who have already said no; instead, it needs to secure 9 votes from the pool of 33 uncommitted Democrats. These senators tend to be younger and less tied to traditional banking interests, making them more accountable to their constituencies, particularly with 60 million Americans holding crypto.
Van Code emphasizes that his analysis is based on observable facts rather than emotional reactions. He believes that analysts calling the bill dead are focusing solely on the vocal opposition, missing the bigger picture. With Majority Leader Thune committed to a floor vote and negotiations still active, the CLARITY Act has a good chance of passing.
