CLARITY Act Vote Delayed Until September Amid Democratic Opposition
The CLARITY Act, a comprehensive crypto market structure legislation in the US, has been delayed until September after missing its August deadline. Senate Majority Leader John Thune expects Senators to stay in Washington over the weekend or early next week for a cloture filing that can allow the bill to advance to a Senate floor vote.
The delay was caused by Democratic opposition, led by Sen. Elizabeth Warren, who maintained that they want legislation for the sector but opposed the current draft CLARITY Act. Warren stated that 'crypto legislation that has been written by the crypto industry to protect and advance the crypto industry...that's just not good crypto legislation.'
Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson slammed the Warren-led Democratic faction, adding that they want to ban all cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology. The CLARITY Act was advanced out of the House last July and cleared its amended version by the Senate Banking Committee in May 2026.
