CLARITY Act Vote Delayed Until September Amid Negotiations
Senate Majority Leader John Thune has confirmed that the vote on the CLARITY Act will be delayed until September. The bill, which aims to establish a regulatory framework for digital assets and provide more transparency in the crypto industry, had been expected to come up for a floor vote before the August recess. However, it appears that negotiations between Republican leaders and Democrats have not yet yielded enough support to move forward with the bill.
According to POLITICO reporter Jordain Carney, Thune confirmed that the Senate will wait until after the recess to take up the bill. This means that the Senate will convene again in mid-September before taking a vote on the CLARITY Act.
The delay is likely due to the fact that Democrats have been pushing for more discussions and negotiations on outstanding issues related to the bill. While Republican leaders had hoped to pass the bill during the recess, it appears that they will not be able to muster enough support from Democrats to move forward with a vote.
