Clarity Act Vote Hangs in Balance as Republicans Seek Final Seven Votes
The Senate is set to vote on Tuesday on the Clarity Act, which aims to clarify crypto oversight between the SEC and CFTC. Despite better ethics language being added to the bill, Republicans still need seven votes to reach the required 60.
With only 53 Republican votes so far, Majority Leader John Thune must find the remaining seven Democratic or independent senators to support the bill before Tuesday's afternoon vote. If cloture fails, there will be no formal debate on H.R. 3633, and no clean path to a floor vote.
The timing of the vote is critical, as the Senate rules require three-fifths of the chamber to pass the bill. The vote was set for 2:15 p.m. ET on Tuesday, September 15, after senators returned from recess.
