Clarity Act Vote Won't Change Crypto's Regulatory Path, Says Coinbase CEO
According to Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong, the crypto industry will gain regulatory clarity regardless of the outcome of the Senate's vote on the Clarity Act.
The bill, which aims to end regulatory confusion by officially dividing crypto oversight between the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), has broad bipartisan support heading into the September 15 vote.
Armstrong said that if the bill passes, it will bring legislation, but even if it doesn't, the SEC and CFTC have indicated they're ready to publish rulemaking, which will provide regulatory clarity soon after.
The Digital Asset Market Clarity Act is intended to create a formal federal rulebook for crypto exchanges, brokers, and stablecoins, providing a clear legal framework that should accelerate institutional adoption of digital assets.
