CLARITY Bill Faces Crucial Senate Vote Amid CFTC Regulatory Plans
The Digital Asset Market Clarity Act is set to face a crucial vote in the US Senate on September 15. The bill aims to create a broader federal framework for digital asset markets, but its path to becoming law remains uncertain.
The CFTC has signaled that it will take limited regulatory action if the bill stalls due to Democratic obstruction. CFTC Chair Michael Selig stated in August that the agency would begin taking steps under existing authority if CLARITY continued to stall.
Selig's plan includes joint work with the Securities and Exchange Commission on crypto asset jurisdiction, as well as rules for tokenized collateral and leveraged retail transactions.
