CLARITY Delay Won't Slow Crypto Adoption, Says Coinbase CEO
Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong believes that the delay in passing the CLARITY Act will not slow down the adoption of cryptocurrencies. Despite Senate leaders postponing the vote until September, Armstrong argues that the momentum behind crypto technology is growing and cannot be stopped by a congressional calendar.
Armstrong pointed to increased stablecoin use, developing markets for tokenized real-world assets, and broader access to perpetual futures as evidence of the industry's growth. He also noted that regulators are already providing companies with greater clarity in some areas, further supporting his argument.
The CLARITY Act aims to create a consistent federal framework for digital assets by dividing oversight between the Securities and Exchange Commission and Commodity Futures Trading Commission. However, negotiations over restrictions involving President Donald Trump's crypto interests have become one of the main obstacles, with Senator Elizabeth Warren rejecting the current bill due to inadequate provisions covering corruption, national security, and consumer risks.
Armstrong emphasized that companies can continue building products under existing rules, but clear legislation is still necessary for creating a unified federal market structure. This would encourage investment and employment while providing stronger protections for U.S. consumers, according to the Coinbase CEO.
