Claude AI Crushes Post-Quantum Algorithm in Record Time
A highly advanced AI model called Claude Mythos has identified significant weaknesses in HAWK, a post-quantum digital signature scheme candidate. The discovery was made after just 60 hours of analysis by Claude Mythos, compared to roughly two years for human experts.
The AI model also accelerated attacks on a reduced variant of the AES symmetric cipher by 200 to 800 times, demonstrating its cryptographic analysis capabilities extend well beyond a single algorithm family. Each discovery cost approximately $100,000 in compute.
HAWK is a candidate for post-quantum cryptography, designed to withstand attacks from future quantum computers. The security community has expressed concerns about the vulnerability of these candidates before they're widely deployed.
