Anthropic's AI system, Claude, has implemented invisible watermarks on all generated content to comply with EU regulations. This policy affects users worldwide and applies to every Claude product variant, including API outputs. The watermarks are integrated into the generated text itself, ensuring they remain attached through copy-paste operations.

For media files like images, Anthropic has adopted the C2PA open standard framework, which embeds cryptographically signed metadata into the file structure. This strategic shift responds directly to the EU's Code of Practice on Transparency of AI-Generated Content, which became enforceable on August 2.

The company acknowledges inherent limitations in the watermarking technology, including text modifications that may compromise or eliminate watermark integrity.
