Claude AI Sharing Feature Exposes Conversations on Google Search
Claude AI's sharing feature has exposed conversations on Google search, including sensitive information like cryptocurrency wallet keys.
The incident occurred over the weekend of July 26-27, when Reddit users discovered that shared Claude conversations were being indexed by Google's search engine.
This meant that anyone with a browser and a site-specific query could access these conversations, which included personal legal discussions, creative erotica, and at least one cryptocurrency wallet key.
Claude's default conversations remain private, but the issue only affected those explicitly shared using Claude's built-in sharing feature, which generates a public URL for any conversation a user wants to pass along.
The shared links created public snapshots of conversations, and without proper 'noindex' meta tags to tell search engines to stay away, Google's crawlers indexed everything they could find.
