CleanCore Sells Dogecoin Treasury for $33.4M, Redirects Funds to AI Infrastructure
CleanCore, a public company, has made a significant move by selling off its entire Dogecoin (DOGE) treasury for approximately $33.4 million. This sale, which took place on July 20, saw CleanCore liquidate all 463 million DOGE in its possession at an average price of around $0.072 per coin.
The proceeds from this sale have been redirected towards the company's AI infrastructure business, as part of a strategic pivot away from meme assets. This move is not unique to CleanCore, as other companies with legacy operations or weakening balance sheets are increasingly using AI as a cleaner narrative for equity investors.
CleanCore's filing frames this sale as a capital reallocation, rather than a crypto unwind for cash preservation. The company is joining the trend of using AI infrastructure as a key argument for network revenue, as seen in the case of Filecoin. This pivot comes with a cost, however, as CleanCore has also completed a $100 million stock offering that increased its shares outstanding by 122% to 502.1 million.
The dual capital events create an unusual setup: a clean exit from a liquid crypto asset combined with an expansion of equity supply. This raises questions about whether the AI infrastructure segment can produce enough operating value to offset the expanded share count. Additionally, this move creates downside pressure on DOGE price and mixed implications for crypto adoption, developer attention, and token performance.
