Clearpool Brings Institutional Lending to XRP Ledger
Clearpool is expanding its lending infrastructure to the XRP Ledger (XRPL), which it believes will help institutional borrowers and lenders access this established network. The company plans to build a new credit market on XRPL, allowing for underwritten institutional credit, not automated overcollateralized lending commonly associated with decentralized finance.
Clearpool's expansion follows an initiative with Ripple, Cicada Partners, where Clearpool builds the lending infrastructure, Cicada is responsible for loan origination and credit management, and Ripple provides investment capital. The company claims its platforms have facilitated more than $965 million in institutional loans since 2021.
The company will migrate from its existing token CPOOL to a new one called CLEAR through a proposed 1:1 migration, preserving the token count of existing holders during the conversion. Protocol revenue would support a buyback-and-burn program for CLEAR, which would direct half of protocol fees toward buying CLEAR on the open market and permanently removing those tokens from circulation.
The proposed terms are subject to community approval through a 14-day discussion period before proceeding to a tokenholder vote through Snapshot. The migration, allocations, supply schedule, and treasury recapitalization remain proposed terms rather than approved token changes until then.
