Cloudflare Launches Permanent ID Tool and Wallet for AI Shopping
Cloudflare has launched cloudflare.id, a permanent identity tool for AI agents that lets merchants verify their authenticity and pairs it with a wallet to hold funds for spending. This is part of Cloudflare's effort to establish itself as the trust layer for the growing bot economy.
The wallet functionality connects to the x402 open protocol, which settles payments peer-to-peer in USDC on Base, Coinbase's layer-2 blockchain. The timing matters, as roughly 57% of web traffic today consists of bots, according to Cloudflare.
Cloudflare has partnered with several major companies, including Visa, Mastercard, and American Express, to integrate AI agent payments securely without exposing sensitive user credentials. It has also collaborated with Experian on the Agent Trust identity framework for additional verification.
