CME Group Defends Against CFTC Suit Amid Q3 Results Release
CME Group Inc., the parent company of the CME exchange, is preparing to release its Q3 2026 results on October 21. This comes as the company defends itself against a lawsuit from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) regarding the approval of bitcoin perpetual futures.
The CFTC had ordered CME to approve the contract, but CME is arguing that it lacks standing in the matter. The CFTC has already moved to dismiss the suit, with a response deadline set for October 2.
CME Group has also been expanding its product offerings, including launching a 10-barrel WTI futures contract in May. This new contract, which has a notional value of around $860, falls between CME's Micro (100bbl) and standard (1,000bbl) contracts.
CME Group reported strong growth in its Micro and metals volumes, with Micro Gold and Silver showing particularly significant gains. In May, Micro WTI averaged 272,000 daily contracts, a 317% increase from the previous year.
