CME Group Expands Crypto Futures Suite to Cover 75% of Market Capitalization
CME Group has expanded its cryptocurrency futures suite to cover over 75% of total market capitalization after launching contracts for Cardano (ADA), Chainlink (LINK), and Stellar (XLM) on February 9. The exchange now offers seven tokens, with the new additions showing moderate-to-high correlations with bitcoin, ranging from 0.60 to 0.67.
The average daily open interest across CME's crypto suite reached approximately $26.4 billion in 2025, a figure that reflects growing institutional exposure to crypto since CME listed its first Bitcoin futures in 2017.
While the timing of the launch may be notable, given the softening market conditions and underperformance of ADA, LINK, and XLM relative to their 2021 peaks, the exchange's expansion into second-tier altcoins is seen as a deliberate institutional strategy rather than a momentum play.
