CME Group Removes Weekend Gap in Cryptocurrency Futures Trading
Chicago's CME Group has made a significant change to its cryptocurrency contracts trading schedule. Since May 29, 2026, its cryptocurrency futures and options have traded continuously apart from scheduled maintenance. This change brings the exchange closer to the timetable already followed by global spot markets.
In the past, Chicago-listed futures would remain fixed at their last available level during weekends, while spot exchanges could move freely. The new schedule spreads the adjustment of prices across the weekend instead of concentrating it into one reopening.
The change allows for another stream of price information to be fed into the market, making it easier for derivatives participants to respond to changes in the ether price while the weekend is still underway.
