CME Launches New Crypto Benchmarks with Focus on Large Assets
CME Group has launched two new cryptocurrency benchmarks that track the performance of large digital assets. The CME CF Emerging Crypto Index excludes Bitcoin and Ether, focusing on 10 assets including BNB, XRP, SOL, HYPE, LINK, Lumens, SUI, UNI, AVAX, and AAVE. This index uses free-float market-cap weighting to calculate real-time pricing every second, with settlement variants calculated once daily in London, New York, and Singapore/Hong Kong.
The emerging index is designed to measure the performance of large crypto assets outside Bitcoin and Ether, and its methodology requires access to custody, excludes meme coins, and applies a protocol-usage screen based on total value locked relative to full market capitalization. The index is reconstituted and rebalanced semiannually on the first business day of June and December.
The CME CF Crypto Market Index holds the same 10 assets plus Bitcoin and Ether, and its methodology is similar to the emerging index. Both indices are built for financial products, including passive replication in funds and settlement of derivatives.
