COIN Pulls Back After 28% August Rally, Bull Case Hinges on Diversification

COIN has pulled back to $176.71 on Binance after its violent 28% August rally, which was fueled by the U.S. Treasury's announcement of increased bond buybacks and re-ignited market liquidity.

The rally was driven more by Bitcoin and Ethereum pulling Coinbase's trading fee revenue along for the ride rather than the company's own business performance.

Q2 2026 earnings showed a 18.5% year-over-year drop in revenue to $1.22 billion, missing Wall Street's consensus by 5.9%, and a GAAP net loss.

The diversification narrative is keeping the bull case alive, with subscription and services revenue now making up nearly 50% of total net revenue, up from just 29% in Q4 2024.
