Coinbase and Robinhood Earnings Reports to Reveal Cryptocurrency Future
Coinbase and Robinhood are set to release their quarterly earnings reports this week, which will give insight into whether cryptocurrencies are shifting from speculative trading to more sophisticated financial infrastructure. The two companies have built their businesses around different models, with Coinbase focusing on crypto trading and custody, while Robinhood made its name in commission-free trading before expanding to cryptocurrency and other digital assets.
Analysts expect Robinhood to report a profit of about $0.40 per share on revenue of approximately $1.25 billion, while Coinbase is expected to show a loss of around $0.36 per share with revenue of over $1.3 billion. Despite similar revenue generation, investors perceive the two companies differently, with Robinhood's enterprise value-to-revenue metric historically being higher than Coinbase's.
Robinhood has adjusted better to the decline in retail activity, with its quarterly trading numbers increasing from around $261 billion in early 2024 to more than $704 billion in the first quarter of 2026. In contrast, Coinbase's total trading volume increased from about $185 billion to some $517 billion over the same period.
