Coinbase Bitcoin Premium Stays Negative for Record-Breaking 90 Days
The Coinbase Bitcoin Premium Index has maintained a negative reading for a record-breaking 90 consecutive days. Since May 19, the index has stayed below zero, indicating that US investors are either showing weaker buying demand or stronger selling pressure compared to global markets.
A sustained negative premium index alone does not necessarily mean that institutional money is leaving the market. This indicator should be considered alongside other metrics, such as flows into and out of US spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs).
The Coinbase Bitcoin Premium Index tracks the price difference between Bitcoin on Coinbase Pro and global crypto exchange Binance. A positive reading signifies stronger buying demand in the US market, while a negative reading indicates relatively weaker demand or stronger selling pressure.
