Coinbase Books Third Straight Quarterly Loss Amid Crypto Market Downturn

Share

Coinbase Global reported its third consecutive quarterly loss due to decreased trading activity in cryptocurrency markets. The exchange's transaction revenue dropped by 21% to $599 million during the April-to-June quarter, down from $764 million a year earlier.

The prolonged downturn in cryptocurrency markets led investors to shy away from riskier assets amid uncertainty over U.S. interest rates and geopolitical tensions. This resulted in lower trading volumes for Coinbase and other exchanges like Robinhood Markets, which reported a 38% slump in second-quarter crypto transaction revenue.

Coinbase's subscription and services unit saw its revenue fall by 12.2% to $555.1 million, contributing to the company's total revenue decline of 18.5% to $1.22 billion during the quarter. The exchange reported a loss of $359.5 million for the period ended June 30.
