Coinbase Brings Instant Micropayments to Slack with New Integration

Share

Coinbase has introduced a new feature that integrates its platform with Slack, allowing users to make instant micropayments for services within the chat app. The company built a bot that lets AI agents ask questions and settle payments automatically, eliminating the need for subscriptions or manual approvals.

The bot uses Coinbase's x402 protocol, which settles transactions on the Base network in approximately 200 milliseconds. Users can query the bot with a question, tag it, and receive an answer that may involve paying for a service behind the scenes without leaving the chat window.

According to Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong, this innovation enhances communication efficiency by making information access more efficient overall. The company aims to streamline professional communication by allowing AI systems to transact economically rather than just holding conversations.
