Coinbase Brings Leverage and Futures Trading to Base App
Coinbase has integrated Hyperliquid's protocol into its Base app, allowing users to trade perpetual futures with up to 50x leverage. This move brings more than 290 perpetual futures markets directly to the mobile application.
The shift towards derivatives is a key driver behind this integration, according to Chintan Turakhia, Coinbase's head of engineering. He noted that perpetual futures account for roughly 75% of total trading volume globally and are the most requested feature among Base app users.
By leveraging Hyperliquid's established liquidity and trading infrastructure, Coinbase aims to offer a seamless trading experience without requiring users to navigate separate platforms. However, this move also raises questions about risk management, as high leverage can amplify losses, particularly for less experienced traders.
