Coinbase Brings Real-World Assets to Its Ethereum Layer-2 Network
Coinbase has launched tokenized stocks on its Ethereum layer-2 network Base for eligible users outside of the US. The initial offering includes fractional shares of Apple and Nvidia, which can be held in self-custody wallets or traded on Aerodrome.
Each token represents a share held by Alpaca, a regulated broker and custodian. Token holders have a direct claim on the underlying share, rather than a derivative tied to its price.
The tokens can also be used as collateral on decentralized lending protocol Aave or added to liquidity pools, automated portfolios, indexes, and derivatives.
