Coinbase Brings Regulated Crypto Futures to Canada with Up to 10x Leverage
Coinbase has launched regulated crypto futures in Canada for eligible users. The platform began offering cryptocurrency derivatives on September 2, 2026, giving users access to perpetual and dated futures contracts on Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), Solana (SOL), and other digital assets.
The contracts are available through Coinbase Financial Markets, a futures commission merchant registered with the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission. This entity operates in Canada under foreign dealer and futures commission merchant exemptions, which allow it to serve the Canadian market without a domestic license.
Coinbase said it is the first major crypto-native platform to offer direct native crypto futures in Canada. The derivatives launch is part of a broader push by US-based trading platforms into the Canadian market, driven in part by rising crypto adoption domestically.
