Coinbase has launched regulated derivatives contracts in Canada, making it the first major crypto-native platform to offer direct native crypto futures on its Canadian platform.

The new products are offered through Coinbase Financial Markets and include perpetual and dated futures, commodity futures, and index futures.

Eligible investors can access 23 perpetual and dated futures such as Bitcoin, ETH, and SOL, five commodity futures including gold, silver, and oil, and index futures like COIN50.

Coinbase noted that corporations and financial institutions use derivatives to manage financial risk, citing Bank of Canada data showing one-third of publicly listed Canadian non-financial corporations use derivatives to hedge earnings.
