Coinbase Brings Tokenized Tech Stocks to Base Blockchain
Coinbase has launched tokenized versions of Apple and Nvidia shares on its Base blockchain for eligible investors outside the United States. The tokens track major technology stocks, allowing users to hold them in personal wallets and use them across decentralized finance applications.
The new assets give non-US investors on-chain exposure to two of the world's largest tech companies: Apple (no ticker mentioned) and Nvidia (NVDA). Each token has one-to-one backing from a real share held by a regulated custodian, protecting the underlying assets in case of company financial difficulties.
The exchange also created the B20 technical standard for these products, which adds compliance controls and tools for handling corporate events such as stock splits. However, investors should review the legal structure and dividend treatment before buying tokenized shares, as it differs from direct ownership of a conventional share.
