Coinbase CEO Advocates Blockchain-AI Collaboration
Brian Armstrong, CEO of Coinbase, thinks blockchain and AI should work together rather than compete. He calls it 'scarcity thinking' when crypto startups rebrand themselves as AI companies, claiming that blockchain is a fundamental building block for artificial intelligence, much like electricity or the internet.
Armstrong believes cryptocurrency can help power autonomous software agents that make real-time transactions. He points to Coinbase's launch of agent accounts in June, which use its Base blockchain and x402 protocol to enable payments handled by AI agents.
Coinbase is leading the way in 'Agentic Finance' (AiFi) with its Base blockchain, x402 protocol, and Circle Internet's USDC stablecoin. However, some experts worry about letting untested AI handle financial assets without solid reputation systems in place.
