Coinbase CEO Calls on Senate to Pass CLARITY Act Amid Bipartisan Support

Share

Coinbase Global Inc.'s CEO Brian Armstrong is calling on the Senate to pass the CLARITY Act, which he believes will bring clarity and clear rules to the crypto industry in America. According to Armstrong, the bill has bipartisan support and would protect consumers, give law enforcement new tools to stop bad actors, and bring crypto within the U.S. regulatory perimeter.

Armstrong pointed out that 70% of Americans agree with the need for clearer rules, regardless of whether they love or hate cryptocurrency. He also highlighted provisions in the bill that would allow banks to expand their involvement with stablecoins and crypto services.

The CLARITY Act has been met with some opposition from critics who worry that it could weaken oversight by shifting authority from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).

Armstrong emphasized that passing the CLARITY Act would be a step in the right direction for America's financial and technology hub, promoting economic growth, jobs, and tax revenue.
