Coinbase CEO Optimistic About CLARITY Act's Chances Amid Regulatory Clarity Push
Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong is optimistic about the prospects of the CLARITY Act in Congress, which he believes will secure more than 60 Senate votes on September 15.
The legislation aims to establish a federal framework for digital assets and define regulatory responsibilities between the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).
Armstrong argues that the current regulatory environment leaves companies and consumers without clear rules governing many crypto products, leading to uncertainty and lack of clarity.
If the CLARITY Act remains stalled, Armstrong expects the SEC and CFTC to move forward with their own crypto market rules as early as September 16. The CFTC is considering rules that could allow crypto trading platforms to operate under a defined federal framework while providing a legal route for developers to offer decentralized protocols.
The SEC is also working on separate digital asset rules, including proposed Regulation Crypto Assets, which would create tailored fundraising exemptions for qualifying token issuers and provide a regulated path for certain crypto projects to raise capital in the United States.
