Coinbase CEO Predicts CLARITY Act to Pass Senate Vote on September 15
Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong is confident that the CLARITY Act will pass its procedural vote in the Senate on September 15, according to an interview with CoinDesk. The bill, which aims to establish a clear regulatory framework for the U.S. virtual asset market, has entered its final stages of discussion.
Armstrong stated that he expects more than 60 votes in favor of the CLARITY Act during the Senate vote, noting that this would be enough to move forward with substantive debate on the bill. The CEO emphasized that regulatory uncertainty surrounding U.S. digital assets is nearing resolution and highlighted the importance of establishing a range of consumer protection measures.
Armstrong also stressed that the CLARITY Act would enhance law enforcement tools to address illicit activity and lay the institutional groundwork for the U.S. virtual asset industry. He drew parallels with the collapse of FTX in 2022, which was marked by customer fund misappropriation and other issues.
