Coinbase CEO Pushes Senate to Expedite Clarity Act Vote on Digital Asset Regulation
Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong has called on the U.S. Senate to expedite a vote on the Clarity Act, which aims to clarify the jurisdictional boundaries between the SEC and the CFTC for digital assets.
The bill seeks to restructure the regulatory framework by clearly delineating the boundary between securities and commodities within digital assets, thereby assigning jurisdiction between the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), and establishing accompanying consumer protection mechanisms.
The industry has been calling for clarifying regulatory jurisdiction to eliminate compliance uncertainty, which affects exchanges such as Coinbase when listing assets, determining legal applicability, and implementing compliance measures.
