Coinbase CEO Sees Regulatory Clarity Coming Soon Despite Senate Vote Hurdle
Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong expects regulatory frameworks for digital assets to be established soon. He believes that even if the 'Clarity Act' fails in its Senate vote on the 15th, clarity could still be achieved through subsequent rule-making by the SEC and CFTC.
Armstrong expressed optimism about the Clarity Act's passage, stating that 'Everyone I've spoken to agrees with the bill.' However, he also acknowledged that securing the necessary 60 votes in the Senate is a challenge. The bill aims to establish a federal regulatory framework for the U.S. digital asset market and clearly delineate the oversight powers of the SEC and CFTC over virtual assets.
Coinbase has been a vocal supporter of this bill, which was introduced in May 2023 and passed the House of Representatives in July last year. The Senate vote on the 15th will be crucial in determining the bill's fate, but Armstrong is confident that regulatory clarity will be achieved one way or another.
