Coinbase CEO Sees Regulatory Clarity Regardless of Senate Vote Outcome
The U.S. Senate is set to vote on the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act on September 15, which aims to establish a comprehensive federal regulatory structure for crypto exchanges and stablecoins.
Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong expressed confidence that cryptocurrency markets will achieve much-needed regulatory clarity regardless of the vote's outcome, stating 'should it fail, both the SEC and CFTC have committed to releasing their own regulatory frameworks.'
The proposed legislation establishes a dual-regulator system for digital asset oversight, with tokens deemed securities falling under Securities and Exchange Commission jurisdiction and decentralized commodities such as Bitcoin regulated by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.
Armstrong noted that support for the bill comes from law enforcement agencies, traditional financial institutions, and cryptocurrency firms alike, although ongoing negotiations center on ethics requirements for elected officials with digital asset holdings. He expressed optimism that 'both parties are nearing agreement.'
