Coinbase CEO Sticks to $400K Bitcoin Target Amid Price Drop
Despite Bitcoin's recent 5.4% drop to $76,930, Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong remains optimistic about the cryptocurrency's future. He believes that Bitcoin will reach $400,000 by 2030, which would require a 420% increase from its current price.
Armstrong attributed this prediction to the four-year cycles of growth and decline that Bitcoin typically experiences. According to him, most down periods last about a year, and the current one has just passed that mark. He cited two key events that will drive the market: the CLARITY Act, which faces a procedural vote in the Senate on September 15, and the next halving, about 18-19 months away.
Analyst Jesse Myers agrees with Armstrong's assessment of the upcoming period. He noted that Bitcoin has rallied significantly after previous halvings, with a 100x increase after the 2012 halving, a 30x increase after the 2016 halving, and an 8x increase after the 2020 halving.
Myers' projections suggest that if the same pattern plays out this cycle, Bitcoin could reach $464,000 by the second half of 2029. However, his analysis is based on a market that has not yet shown significant buying interest, with futures traders driving recent price movements.
