Coinbase CEO Warns Philanthropy Can Have 'Net Negative' Consequences
Coinbase's CEO Brian Armstrong says that donating to charities can often have unintended negative consequences. Speaking on Katie Miller's podcast, Armstrong stated that many philanthropic efforts are 'captured by ideology,' leading to outcomes opposite of their original intentions.
Armstrong pointed to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation as an example of a charity that has strayed from its founder's vision. He claimed that Henry Ford would be disappointed with what his eponymous foundation has become.
The Ford Foundation, one of the largest charitable organizations in the US, has faced criticism in the past for allegedly promoting 'radical left-wing ideology.' Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) accused it of funding the Chinese Communist Party and its allies in 2025. However, spokespeople for both organizations maintain that they comply with all relevant laws and regulations.
