Coinbase: Crypto Industry at Turning Point with CLARITY Act Vote Looming

Share

Coinbase's Vice Chair and Head of Corporate Affairs, Ryan VanGrack, has spoken out about the CLARITY Act, a bill that could have significant implications for the crypto industry.

According to VanGrack, the crypto industry has reached a turning point on the CLARITY Act, with a broader coalition than ever before backing the bill. This includes law enforcement groups, major Wall Street firms, and millions of crypto voters who have taken the time to study what's in it.

'It's time to stop talking and start voting,' VanGrack said, fresh off meetings in Washington ahead of the Senate's return later this month. He framed the Senate's choice as between comprehensive federal oversight or the status quo, which leaves consumers, law enforcement, and illicit finance safeguards all worse off.

If the bill stalls past the midterm elections, VanGrack pointed to two things that won't change: the pace of progress in crypto regulation and innovation. The SEC and CFTC have both signaled intent to propose new rules, while international regulators and technologies like tokenization and agentic trading are advancing rapidly.

Banks, once seen as firmly opposed to crypto's rise, have begun to move towards it. VanGrack pointed to a recent consortium of roughly two dozen major banks announcing a joint stablecoin, calling it proof that traditional finance has moved past debating whether to engage with crypto and is now focused purely on how.

If the CLARITY Act passes, VanGrack views what lies ahead as opportunities. The next phase involves the SEC and CFTC actively writing detailed rules that flow from the legislation, while innovation in areas like tokenization and agentic trading will continue to accelerate domestically and internationally regardless of whether the bill clears the Senate.
