Coinbase Delists Ten Perpetual Futures Amid Low Liquidity Concerns
Coinbase has announced that it will be delisting ten perpetual futures on August 26, 2026. The affected contracts are for Memecoin (MEME), The Sandbox (SAND), Moonbirds (BIRB), Blur (BLUR), Katana (KAT), SPX6900 (SPX), Zora (ZORA), Axie Infinity (AXS), Gensyn (AI) and LayerZero (ZRO). The delisting is part of a series, with six perpetual futures ending in June and nine more following on September 3.
The contracts are being removed due to low liquidity, which can make trading expensive for exchanges and risky for investors. Perpetual futures are a type of derivatives contract that does not expire, but requires periodic funding payments to keep the price aligned with the underlying asset's spot market price.
Coinbase will settle any open positions automatically using an average index price from the final hour of trading before suspension. This means that traders who leave their positions open will have their contracts closed at a fixed price, rather than being able to sell them themselves. The exchange has also stated that it may suspend trading early and set the final settlement price at its discretion.
