Coinbase Deribit Upgrade: High-Speed Matching Engine Now Live
Coinbase has rolled out a major infrastructure upgrade on its derivatives arm Deribit, deploying a new matching engine capable of processing over 100,000 orders per second with sub-millisecond matching latency. This upgrade is significant for high-frequency traders and market makers who require fast execution speeds.
The new engine introduces brief delays for aggressive orders, giving liquidity providers more room to adjust quotes during volatile markets. This change aims to improve trading speed and reliability while protecting liquidity providers from being repeatedly picked off by faster orders.
Coinbase plans to migrate perpetual futures contracts onto this high-performance matching engine, extending the upgrade to Deribit's most actively traded product line.
The upgrade is part of a broader consolidation strategy to fold Coinbase's derivatives business into a single, higher-performance venue. The migration of institutional International Exchange accounts to Deribit by September 9 and the planned migration of perpetual futures contracts are key milestones in this process.
