Coinbase is reviving its original wallet name after more than a year of testing a broader app called Base. The company announced the change on September 10, returning the product to its former identity.

Initially renamed to Base App in July 2025, Coinbase had combined social features, messaging, payments, and trading into one platform. However, CEO Brian Armstrong said the social experiment 'didn't quite work', shifting more attention toward trading and self-custody.

The wallet remains self-custodial, allowing users to retain control of their assets. The app has expanded network support to include Base, Solana, Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other networks, with Robinhood Chain and Monad among its latest additions.
