Coinbase Ditches Social Focus for Multi-Chain Trading
The Coinbase Wallet is changing its name back to Coinbase Wallet as part of a broader strategy shift by the company. The move comes after the Base App, which was rebranded from Coinbase Wallet in July last year, failed to attract the adoption that its creators had hoped for.
Ryan Kass, the head of product at Coinbase Wallet, said that the name change reflects the app's expansion beyond Base to a multi-chain trading platform. The company believes that the familiar name Coinbase Wallet better supports its 'all-in-one' strategy.
Kass stated that the launch of perpetual futures on Hyperliquid, support for other cryptocurrency chains like Solana, and tokenized stocks across multiple chains demonstrate the return of Coinbase Wallet to its roots as a platform for trading almost any asset quickly and easily. The wallet will continue to distribute assets, communities, and resources from the Base Chain.
