Coinbase Enables Businesses to Accept Payments from AI Agents

Coinbase has launched a set of tools that enable businesses to accept payments from AI agents using USDC, the stablecoin. The update was rolled out this week for Coinbase Business users.

The payments are processed through the x402 protocol, which allows stablecoin payments over HTTP. This means AI agents can pay for services just like a person would use a credit card online.

Coinbase Head of Business Sid Coelho-Prabhu described it as building the checkout experience for the agentic economy. An agent can create its own wallet, read the documentation, and start transacting, no extra setup needed on the business side.
