Coinbase Ends Base App Experiment and Returns to Multichain Trading
Coinbase has ended its Base App experiment and returned to the Coinbase Wallet name. The shift marks a strategic move toward self-custodial trading and multichain access, with Coinbase expanding its reach beyond its own ecosystem.
The company's Head of Wallet Product, Ryan Kass, described Coinbase Wallet as a 'test kitchen' for products and assets not yet available on the centralized exchange. The wallet currently supports over 10 networks, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, Base, BNB Chain, Monad, Robinhood Chain, Optimism, Arbitrum, Polygon, and Avalanche.
Coinbase Wallet gives users access to perpetual futures powered by Hyperliquid, prediction markets, and tokenized stocks. As transactions take place onchain, users can interact directly with decentralized markets while retaining control of their assets and private keys.
